Art Technique: Chalk Landforms

Are you looking for a way to freshen up your landform lessons? Maybe you want to dip your toe into the Arts Integration pond, but are looking for something simple to enhance your lesson.

Chalk Landforms offer artistic flexibility while addressing both science and visual arts standards.

Art Concepts:

  • Space and Overlapping Objects
  • Process of Using Chalk

Materials:

  • Large Paper for Placemat
  • Scrap Paper for Tearing Landforms
  • Final Work Paper
  • Chalk
  • Paper Towels or Tissues

Process:

  • Tear your landforms using the scrap paper
  • Add chalk along the edge of the torn landscape paper. Leave all extra chalk sprinkles. You want extra chalk bits.
  • Place the landform on your final work paper
  • Hold in place with one hand and use your other hand to hold a paper towel or tissue. Pull the chalk, in a downward motion to the final work paper.
  • Lift the landform away from the paper to see your work!
  • Repeat the process as needed with more scrap paper and more landforms.
