The Ultimate Common Core and Arts Resource

300 teachers, 55 curricula and 1 school.

For two weeks this summer, I have been helping to coordinate the Curriculum Innovation Writing Academy with Anne Arundel County Public Schools.  It has been an amazing experience! Between the collaboration and brain power coming together when combining all these resources in one location is mind boggling.  Teachers have the ability to walk across the hall and ask questions from other content areas. This becomes an essential component of any integrated curriculum. The fact that every single content area now has integrated components makes me do the happy dance.

What I noticed from these few weeks from arts perspectives showed the need for today’s Free Friday resource.  Our arts writers diligently try to find authentic and purposeful ways to embed and integrate the Common Core. Not only into their own curriculums, but in an effort to provide support to English/Language Arts and Math. In terms of integrating the arts into their new standards. Our very own Pat Klos is in classrooms from science to reading and ESOL providing suggestions for arts integration within the instructional delivery.  However, many of our writers are running into a roadblock: scattered resources.

Turns out, trying to find a cohesive resource for ways that the arts connect to Common Core is rather difficult.  There is a smattering of ideas in many places all over the internet, but nothing pulled together in one place.  Even here at EdCloset, I’ve noticed that our Common Core resources are spread all over the place: articles, lessons, videos…everywhere! That’s where today’s resource comes in.

We’ve gathered all of the resources we’ve created (thus far), as well as a handful of other excellent sites into one easy-to-read document.

This table provides you with the art form, lessons, technology, additional resources and assessments that all connect that art form to the Common Core in some way.  From what we’ve seen, this is the ultimate Common Core and Arts resource that you will find out on the web.  And it’s not finished!  We’ll continue to add to this dynamic table every time we create something new in this area, or if we discover a must-have resource that connects the arts to Common Core.
